Dengue surge triggers health concerns in Bangladesh
Staff Reporter :
The dengue situation continues to be a concern in Bangladesh, with 35 new cases reported in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh infections have brought the total number of dengue cases this year to 2,524. However, no new deaths were reported during this period, keeping the nationwide death toll at 19, the DGHS said.
Breakdown of the new cases shows that eight infections were reported from Barishal Division, 11 from Chattogram Division, three from Dhaka Division (outside Dhaka City Corporation areas), two from Khulna Division, and one from Mymensingh Division. Within Dhaka city, three cases were reported from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and seven from Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Currently, 156 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country.
Last year, Bangladesh saw a devastating dengue outbreak, with 575 reported deaths and 101,214 total cases. Of those, 100,040 patients made a full recovery.
Health authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, especially as the monsoon season approaches, typically leading to a rise in mosquito-borne diseases.
Health officials reported that dengue cases have been detected in several divisions, including Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, and Mymensingh. Within the capital, both the Dhaka North and South City Corporations are seeing a steady number of infections, signaling that the virus remains active in urban areas.
With the monsoon season approaching, both government and local authorities are stepping up awareness campaigns to prevent a repeat of last year’s tragic losses.
Authorities also emphasized that coordinated efforts between city corporations, healthcare workers, and the public will be crucial in tackling the growing dengue threat effectively.
