Dengue hospitalisation top 44,000

Bangladesh has recorded one more death from dengue fever in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities this year to 188, while admissions surged past 44,000 mark.

Another 632 new patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease during the period, raising the tally of hospitalisations this year to 44,743.
According to the health directorate’s bulletin on Thursday, the male patient, aged 35, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The month of September has seen a notable spike, with 66 deaths reported until Tuesday, surpassing the previous high of 41 fatalities in July.

Bangladesh also witnessed deaths from dengue in other months, including 10 in January, three in February, seven in April, three in May, 19 in June, and 39 in August. No deaths were reported in March, reports bdnews24.com.

September has seen the highest number of hospital admissions with 12,997 patients, followed closely by July with 10,684.

Other months saw varying figures, including 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, and 10,496 in August.

Of the 632 new patients in the past 24 hours, 207 were from the two Dhaka city corporation areas.

Another 69 were from elsewhere in the Dhaka Division, 78 in Chattogram, 156 in Barishal, 52 in Rajshahi, 33 in Khulna, and 36 in Rangpur.

At present, 2,062 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country. Of them, 760 are in Dhaka and 1300 outside the capital.
