In the last 24-hour, at least three more individuals reportedly died of dengue, raising the total death toll 226 this year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed that 1,186 additional patients have been hospitalized with viral fever, exacerbating concerns over the health crisis.
The situation is particularly dire in the capital, where 309 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation, and 147 were hospitalised in the Dhaka South City Corporation.
Across the country, approximately 3,697 patients are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Since January 1, 2024, a staggering total of 45,950 dengue cases have been reported, and the number continues to rise.
This year’s death toll has already surpassed that of last year, when 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, marking it as the deadliest year on record.
In light of the escalating crisis, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called for urgent action from the government to contain the dengue outbreak and protect the health of citizens.
As the nation battles this ongoing health threat, the DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely, having recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries last year.
With the monsoon season still affecting the region, health authorities are urging the public to take preventive measures against mosquito breeding to mitigate further spread of the disease.
