Dengue claimed eight more lives raising death toll from the viral fever till Thursday morning taking the total death toll to 83 this year.
This is the highest death toll from dengue in a single day in this season.
Besides, 765 more patients were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease as cases keep rising, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS said that among the latest deaths, three were reported from Dhaka division and remaining five from Chattogram division.
The dengue death toll in Dhaka division stands at 46, in Chattogram division at 32 and in Barishal division at five.
Of the new patients, 497 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 268 outside the capital.
A total of 2,695 dengue patients, including 1,915 in Dhaka city, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The DGHS has recorded 23,282 dengue cases and 20,405 recoveries so far this year.
Meanwhile, capital’s Mirpur and Uttara have topped the list with the largest number of patients suffering from dengue.
Other areas of Dhaka with a large number of dengue patients going to hospitals are Mugda, Keraniganj and Jatrabari.
Outside Dhaka, the disease has also spread in Cox’s Bazar.
At least 1,368 dengue patients were found in Cox’s Bazar, Dr Ahmedul Kabir, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said at a media briefing on Thursday.
 “Highest 48 dengue patients have died within three days of hospitalisation, 18 patients died within three to six days of admission while six patients within six to nine days and three in nine to 30 days, “he said.
The dengue infections are highest among people aged over 20 years while the death toll is high among people aged between 40-50 years, he said.
The number of deaths is high outside Dhaka and most of them died three days after hospitalization, he added.
Professor Dr Ahmedul Kabir, said that a training programme is going on alongside an awareness raising programme about dengue fever.
The DGHS official said that it is important to raise public awareness about the viral fever.
The DGHS also instructed the authorities concerned to prepare more hospitals for dengue treatment, the official said.
