Health authorities on Thursday reported 311 new dengue cases and five deaths in the past 24 hours, with the highest number of patients being admitted to hospitals in the southwestern Barishal region.
“Of the 311 patients, 82 were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, which remains the hardest-hit area by the mosquito-borne disease,” the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a statement.
According to the DGHS, 37 patients were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 42 in Dhaka division (excluding the capital), 61 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area, 51 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area, 15 in Khulna division, two in Mymensingh division, and 21 in Rajshahi division.
Since the beginning of this year’s outbreak, dengue has claimed 110 lives in Bangladesh and affected 27,782 people so far. Last year, the disease killed 575 people and infected 101,214 across the country.
