Dengue claims 10 more lives, 2nd highest daily death count this year

The dengue outbreak in Bangladesh continues to worsen, with ten more deaths recorded in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, marking the second-highest daily toll of the year.

With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh has risen to 302 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Five of the new deaths were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), three in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and one each in Barishal and Khulna Divisions (out of CC).

During this period, 1,069 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, bringing the total number of cases to 74,992 so far this year. Currently, 1,140 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, while a total of 3,203 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country. The report also said that, among this year’s patients, 62.2 percent were male and 37.8 percent were female.

Of the deaths, 53.3 percent were men and 46.7 percent were women. Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people. The DGHS recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries during the same period.
