Sylhet Bureau :

Dengue cases have surged in Sylhet, with 4 new cases reported in just the past 24 hours. In total, 6 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals in the Sylhet division. However, sources confirmed that all of them are in stable condition.

According to the Sylhet Divisional Office of the Directorate General of Health, a total of 16 dengue cases have been recorded in Sylhet division so far this year.

Of these, 5 are from Sylhet district, 3 from Moulvibazar, 5 from Habiganj, and 1 from Sunamganj. Notably, there have been no reported deaths from dengue in the division this season.

While 14 people were infected with dengue in the first five months of the year, 7 cases have been reported in the first 13 days of May alone.

Currently, 6 patients are receiving treatment: 4 at the Habiganj Lakhai Upazila Health Complex, 1 at the Jalalabad Ragib Rabeya Medical College Hospital, and 1 at North East Medical College Hospital.

Dr. Anisur Rahman, Director of the Sylhet Divisional Health Department, stated that dengue patients from districts other than Habiganj have not had a travel history, suggesting they were infected locally.

He pointed out that Habiganj, with its industrial factories and close connections to Dhaka, may be at higher risk for local transmission.

Dr. Rahman emphasized that while the 4 new cases in 24 hours should not cause undue alarm, increased public awareness and vigilance are essential.

He also mentioned that urgent instructions would be issued to the Sylhet Health Department shortly.
