Khulna Correspondent :
A memorandum has been submitted demanding special allocation in the upcoming national budget for the development of 19 coastal upazilas of the country, including Koyra Upazila, surrounded by Sundarbans on three sides, and for the protection of the greater Sundarbans.
The memorandum was sent to the Finance Advisor of the interim government on behalf of a voluntary organization in Koyra called ” Coast and Sundarbans Conservation Movement”.
Deputy Commissioner of Khulna (DC) Mohammad Saiful Islam received the memorandum on Sunday (May 25) afternoon.
It is stated in the memorandum that the coastal region is facing extreme threats day by day due to the adverse effects of climate change. In the current context, one disaster after another is hitting the coastal region of the country.
Salinity, river erosion, deforestation, and hostility towards the Sundarbans ecosystem are making human life and nature unsafe. The common people are being forced to leave the area.
