At a press conference at the Sylhet Press Club on Tuesday, the leaders of the Bangladesh Welfare Council UK have demanded that Biman flights on the Sylhet-Manchester route be continued.
The organization’s president MA Mukit and general secretary Ashraf Gazi said at the press conference that despite the long-standing demands of the expatriates, no initiative is being taken to upgrade Sylhet’s Osmani Airport to full international standards. In a written statement at the press conference, the leaders also said that the United Nations has fully supported all the initiatives of the government led by Dr. Yunus on the path to the transition of a new Bangladesh. They also mentioned that they want to be by their side in all the works of this government.
They mentioned that the expatriates had stopped sending remittances in a way, expressing distrust in the autocratic government.
After Hasina’s resignation, the expatriates have started sending money again. Which is currently making an important contribution to the country’s economy. Giving importance to the issue of expatriates, they demanded that all international flights be ensured at Sylhet Osmani International Airport. If other flights besides Biman take off and land in Sylhet, all expatriates will benefit. They will be able to travel comfortably at low fares. They sought immediate intervention from the relevant quarters of the government in these matters.
