Demand 4 days official holiday on Durga Puja

Sri Sri Janmashtami Celebration Parishad has demanded to declare
a four-day public holiday during the upcoming Sharodiyo Durga Utsab.

This demand was announced at a press conference at Chattogram Press Club’s Bangabandhu Hall on Monday.

Sukumar Chowdhury, President of Sri Sri Janmashtami Celebration Parishad, read the written statement at the press conference.

Stating that Janmashtami festival has been celebrated in Chattogram for 40 years, he said that Janmashtami festival is on the birthday of Lord Krishna.

On this occasion, cloth distribution, blood donation, distribution of food items to orphans and destitutes, Gita reading, Sandhyarati, Janmashtami puja-bhog, welfare of the nation and freedom from corona, dengue, war, and unstable political situation will be done.

He said that the Janmashtami Festival Celebration Council deeply believes in the combination of religion and action.

“We believe that tolerant and non-sectarian religious spirit and thought can save the country from development and social degradation. The key to a democratic environment is non-violence and tolerance.”

He demanded construction of model temples in 64 districts, enactment of laws to rescue and preserve derelict monasteries, temples, sacred property, reconstruction of temples and houses destroyed by communal attacks under government initiative.
