Entertainment Desk :
Deepika Padukone had purchased the rights to the highly discussed Hollywood film The Intern. In 2021, the actress announced the Hindi remake of the film, which was supposed to be produced under her production banner, KA Productions. However, due to various reasons, the project was delayed.
The original The Intern, directed by Nancy Meyers and released in 2015, starred Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in lead roles. In the Hindi remake, Amitabh Bachchan has been cast in the role originally played by De Niro, while Deepika was set to play the character portrayed by Hathaway, in addition to producing the film.
However, after nearly four years, Deepika has changed her mind. According to the news outlet Mid-Day, she will not be acting in the film. She will remain involved solely as a producer.
At this stage of her career, Deepika Padukone wants to take a slightly different path-reducing her acting projects and focusing more on her role as a producer. Next year, she plans to produce five films under her banner, KA Productions.
These stories, she believes, have the potential to spark discussions not only in India but worldwide. The remake of The Intern will be the first among them. Previously, KA Productions produced Chhapaak and 83, released in 2020 and 2021 respectively. After a few years of inactivity, KA Productions is set to resume operations.
