Deepa Khandakar is a popular name in the Bangladeshi drama industry with an acting career spanning more than two decades. She has made
a firm place in the hearts of the audience by acting in numerous dramas of Bangladesh Television (BTV).
The actress has also worked in movies. While most of her contemporaries are irregular on screen, Deepa has been active in dramas, advertisements and films since the beginning.
Deepa Khandakar’s last drama was the family drama ‘Anutopto’ directed by KM Sohag Rana, which received a lot of response from the audience.
Recently, she has joined the new family drama series titled ‘Eta Amaderi Golpo’ by popular producer Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Raj.
Deepa recently faced journalists from the sets of this series. While talking to reporters, the actress called for bringing family or family stories back to the centre of dramas.
She also highlighted a complaint from long-time viewers about the type of dramas currently aired on television.
Deepa said, “For years, I have always heard a complaint that now there are very small dramas, two-three artistes, nothing family-related, how do you watch it? I watch it for a while, after watching the drama ends, and then I forget, what was the story? Why aren’t there dramas about family?”
Then, Deepa’s addition, Mostafa Kamal Raj’s new series ‘Eta Amaderi Golpo’ is going to fill the gap of that family story. In the words of the actress, “I would like to thank Mostafa Kamal Raj especially for thinking that this trend should be broken. As families are being broken, we were forgetting the values of the family. But we say that drama is a tool to change lives. So, what we see in drama, a lot of it has an effect on people.”
Deepa Khandakar believes that when viewers see a family in a drama where respect is shown for elders, the younger generation will learn that lesson. There will be an opportunity to learn family values like exchanging greetings with elders, saying goodbye when going out, and greeting them upon returning. Deepa also called this series a big project.
According to the actress, “By big project, I don’t mean that it will be a very long drama, not like that. As much as possible, we are doing the work with many artists in a very beautiful and big arrangement.”
She expressed and hoped, “If the audience can learn even a little bit of values by watching this series, then this work will be worthwhile and all the artistes associated with it will be successful.”
