Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus inaugurated a special lounge for the country’s migrant workers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Monday.
“Our migrant workers are nation builders. They played a vital role in the July-August mass uprising. We will always be grateful to them,” the Chief Adviser stated.
“We believe this lounge will make travel easier for our remittance warriors,” he added.
The Probashi Lounge, the first of its kind at the Dhaka airport, provides migrant workers with a space to rest and access subsidised food and refreshments.
Law and Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul, along with senior officials from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), attended the event.
The Law Adviser paid tribute to Bangladeshi migrant workers and the millions of members of the country’s diaspora who have continually sacrificed for their homeland.
Fathima Nusrath Ghazzali, Deputy Chief of the IOM Mission to Bangladesh, said the UN agency had sponsored the lounge to support Bangladeshi migrant workers.
“This is an initiative of the Honourable Chief Adviser, and we are happy to support it,” she remarked.
She also noted that the IOM is sponsoring nearly 100 volunteers to assist migrants at the airport.
