Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud announced on Wednesday that while the decision to cancel this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent postponed exams will remain in effect, no final decision has been made regarding the evaluation process for students.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, Mahmud addressed the ongoing uncertainty following the government’s decision on Tuesday to cancel the HSC exams.

This decision was made in response to student protests inside the Secretariat, though it has since sparked demands from some students to proceed with the exams.

“If the HSC exams are held now, there are concerns about whether the situation will remain safe and whether the confidentiality of the question papers can be maintained. There is ample opportunity for the exams to be questioned. There are arguments both for and against holding the exams.

We wanted to analyse further. But as you know, the incidents that occurred were unfortunate,” said Mahmud.
Regarding the evaluation of students in the absence of final exams, the adviser emphasised that students have undergone various assessments throughout the academic year, including test and pre-test exams.

He urged all college authorities to provide the evaluation papers for all subjects of the students to assist in determining final grades.

“Our experts are considering the matter, and the education boards are expected to make a decision on this soon,” he added.

The ongoing debate around the HSC exams and the subsequent evaluation process has created significant uncertainty among students, teachers, and parents alike.

The education boards are now under pressure to devise a fair and reliable method of assessment in light of the current situation.
