Two medical teams from Singapore and India have extended support to assist with the treatment of burn victims following the tragic plane crash near Milestone School and College in the capital on Monday.

The Singaporean medical team is already active on the ground and has visited the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), where they began treating the injured.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Director of NIBPS, stated, “The medical team from Singapore will continue monitoring the patients for the next few days. They have assessed each case individually and provided significant medical guidance.”

He added that, given the rapidly changing condition of many patients, the treatment plan will be reviewed every 12 hours and adjusted accordingly.

Dr. Nasir Uddin also mentioned that no final decision has yet been made regarding how long the Singaporean team will remain in Bangladesh.

Regarding the possibility of sending patients abroad for further treatment, he said no decision has been taken so far.

According to the NIBPS director, 44 injured individuals have been admitted to the institute. The patients have been categorised based on the severity of their condition: 8 are in critical condition, 13 are under Complete Bed Rest (CBR), and 23 fall into the intermediate category.

Tragically, one patient, Nafis, succumbed to his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), health ministry sources confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka announced on Tuesday that, following instructions from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, a team of burn specialists and nurses equipped with medical supplies will soon arrive in Dhaka.

Their mission is to assess the condition of the injured and recommend further treatment, including specialized care in India if required.

The High Commission added that depending on the initial assessment, additional medical teams from India may be deployed to support the ongoing treatment efforts.

On July 21, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the loss of lives in the Dhaka air crash and assured Bangladesh of India’s full support.

The Indian High Commission has also formally written to the Bangladesh government, requesting updates on any critical medical needs that could potentially be met in India.
