Special Correspondent :
The Cabinet Division has received 356 proposals from district administrators and commissioners as the four-day annual conference of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) is set to commence today (Sunday).

These proposals encompass a diverse range of initiatives aimed at enhancing public services, alleviating public suffering, constructing roads and bridges, promoting tourism, and amending laws or regulations to prioritise public interest.

Notably, a significant number of proposals are focused on the Road Transport and Highways Department, totaling 22 in this category.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the four-day conference at Shapla Hall at her office at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, as announced by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain during a press conference at the Secretariat on Saturday.

Following the inaugural function, the DCs will engage in an open discussion with the Prime Minister at Karabi Hall at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), according to the programme schedule.

The Osmani Memorial Hall in the capital will serve as the main venue for this year’s DCs conference, continuing the tradition from the previous year.

The event, scheduled to conclude on March 6, will comprise 30 sessions, with 25 focused on interactions with various ministries and divisions.

Two special sessions are slated for discussions with the Speaker and the Chief Justice, addressing essential directions and formalities.

This year’s conference will witness active participation from 56 ministries, divisions, institutions, and the Prime Minister’s Office. Unfortunately, the tradition of hosting a session with the President cannot be maintained this time due to the President’s overseas commitments, as conveyed by the Cabinet Secretary.

The annual conference serves as a crucial platform for facilitating dialogue and providing essential guidance between government policymakers and district administrators, thereby enhancing public governance and services.

Ministers and secretaries representing various ministries and divisions will engage in discussions and offer directives to the Deputy Commissioners (DCs), as emphasized by the Cabinet Secretary.

The primary focus of this year’s conference includes addressing critical issues such as land management, enhancing law and order, bolstering local government institutions, implementing disaster management and relief programmemes, fostering local job creation, alleviating poverty, executing social safety net programmemes, harnessing information and communication technology, improving education standards and access, ensuring health and family welfare, conserving the environment, preventing pollution, advancing physical infrastructure, and coordinating development programme implementation.
