Sylhet Bureau :
Sylhet District Administrator Md. Sarwar Alam inspected the MAG Osmani Hospital, the main medical center of Sylhet division, amid various complaints about its services and management.
He inspected the Osmani Medical Hospital on Monday afternoon. During this time, the District Administrator also spoke to the director of Osmani Hospital and senior officials.
Sarwar Alam told reporters, “We are working on how to further improve the services of Osmani Hospital. We want to make this hospital a good hospital in the Sylhet region within a short period of time.” Stating that there are several challenges in Osmani, he said, “It is a 900-bed hospital. But the manpower is 500 beds. However, there are three to four times more patients here than the capacity. Even today, about 2,700 patients are admitted. There are 3/4 attendants along with the patients.” If there are such a large number of people, services cannot be provided and services are disrupted.
Besides, he said that there is an influx of brokers here, and he said, “We are trying to control brokers. No broker will be able to enter Osmani Hospital. There will be no brokers here. Legal action will be taken against those who try to enter. If any clinic wants to take patients from here, action will also be taken against them.”
The DC said, “There is a problem of cleanliness here. I came one night earlier.” Then I saw a lot of uncleanliness. I will try to come here once a week or every 15 days. And not to come. So that I can understand the real environment here.
Mentioning that there is also a problem with parking at the hospital, he said, we are trying to identify the problems. Then initiatives will be taken to solve them. It will take some time. However, if everyone tries together, it is possible to turn Osmani into a good hospital in a short time.
At the end of the inspection, the District Administrator held a meeting with the hospital director and other officials. He said, “We are discussing various problems of the hospital. By identifying the problems, efforts will be made to further improve this hospital.” Earlier, DUDAK conducted a raid on Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital due to various complaints and irregularities.
