District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah has provided one cell counter and two portable ECG machines to the 100-bed Narayanganj General Hospital to ensure accurate platelet counts and other blood tests for dengue patients. On Thursday (October 16), under the “Green and Clean Narayanganj” initiative, the DC formally handed over the modern medical equipment on behalf of the District Council.
Later, the District Commissioner planted trees within the hospital premises and visited the dengue ward, where he spoke with patients, including those being treated on the floor. Following the inspection, DC Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah said, “Nearly one crore people live in Narayanganj. This hospital plays a vital role in the district’s healthcare services, serving over one lakh patients each month. However, due to shortages of doctors and staff, it’s difficult to provide the desired level of service. Today, with the support of the District Council, we’ve supplied one cell counter and two portable ECG machines to improve patient care.”
Addressing the doctors, he emphasized, “Our main goal is to ensure that patients receive service with full attention and sincerity.” Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam, Resident Medical Officer of Victoria General Hospital, said, “Previously, we didn’t have an automatic CBC machine. Now, we can perform platelet counts and other blood tests more accurately, which will greatly improve dengue patient management. The portable ECG machines will allow us to conduct tests right at the patient’s bedside.” Civil Surgeon of Narayanganj, Dr. A.F.M. Mushfiur Rahman, said,“Although our hospital has only 100 beds, we never turn away any
patient. These new machines will significantly enhance our capacity. The District Commissioner is deeply attentive not only to our healthcare sector but to every department in the district that’s the mark of a truly dedicated administrator.” Present at the event were Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam (RMO, Victoria General Hospital), Additional Deputy Commissioner Naeema Islam, Assistant Commissioner Md. Tarikul Islam, and several government officials and distinguished guests.
