Staff Reporter :

“The Detective Branch (DB) of the police will not be able to arrest anyone while in plain clothes. They must wear jacket and have identity card with them during the drive, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

He said this while speaking to the media after inspecting the DB office in city’s Minto Road on Monday.

“There will be no ‘Aynaghar’ or any ‘Vaat-er hotel’ in the DB,” the home affairs adviser also announced it over there.

He said, “They will not do anything outside the law. If I order them to do anything outside the law, they should not do it.”

Stating that there was no corruption committed during the appointment of SIs, Jahangir Alam said, “If I have committed any corruption, you should reveal it. I have no objection.”

Besides, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also said that electronic passports (e-passports) will be fully implemented across Bangladesh by December 31 this year, replacing the existing Machine Readable Passports (MRPs).

“The work of the e-passport system will be fully implemented within this year. After that, there will be no MRPs.

Efforts are being made to complete the process during my tenure,” he said during a press briefing on Monday following a meeting with officials of the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) at its headquarters in the capital.
