The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has detained seven people accused of operating a honey trap and job fraud racket in the capital.
Those arrested are Md Biplob Khan, 33, Farin Tanha Tofa, 29, Sampa Akhter, 24, Shah Mohammad Jobayer Avik, 23, Md Al-Masud, 32, Mosha Monika Akhter, 18, and Md Abu Sufian, 27.
They were picked up during separate drives in Dhaka’s Shewrapara and Tejgaon areas on Tuesday, confirmed Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP’s media wing.
According to police, the gang had been luring victims through social media platforms such as Facebook, Imo, and Telegram by offering fake job opportunities and other services.
During questioning, the detainees reportedly confessed to their long-term involvement in the scam.
Investigators said many of the victims avoided filing complaints due to social stigma, which enabled the syndicate to run its operations for a prolonged period without exposure.
“Necessary legal steps are being taken against them,” DC Talebur Rahman added.
