Launch operations on the Daulatdia–Paturia river route resumed early Saturday morning after a 46-hour suspension caused by rough weather conditions.
The services were halted on Thursday morning as a precautionary measure when a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal intensified, making the Padma River dangerously turbulent from Wednesday night.
According to Mohammad Shimul, traffic supervisor at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Daulatdia terminal, operations restarted around 6:45am on Saturday following a significant improvement in weather conditions.
“The weather has now stabilized, and launch movement has been allowed to resume,” Shimul confirmed.
The suspension had disrupted travel and goods transportation along one of the key river routes connecting the country’s southern and western regions. Authorities had imposed the halt to ensure passenger safety amid the stormy conditions.
