Investigation report of the case against the National Film Award winning dancer and choreographer Evan Shahriar Sohag and others in the
case under Human Trafficking Act has been postponed to July 23.
Metropolitan Magistrate Akhtaruzzaman fixed this date yesterday.
The date of submission of investigation report of the case was fixed yesterday. But the investigation officer of the case SI Kamruzzaman could not file the report, so the court set a new date.
SI Tahmina Haque, General Registration Officer of the court’s Women and Torture Prevention Cell, confirmed the matter yesterday.
On July 2, 2020, based on intelligence, Assistant Police Super of CID, Mrinal Kanti Shah filed a case against human trafficker Azam Khan and nine people under the Trafficking in Persons Act at Lalbagh Police Station.
The defendants in the case were – Alamin Hossain alias Diamond, Swapan Hossain, Azam Khan, Nazim, Ershad, Nirmal Das, Alamgir, Aman and Shuvo.
The case mentions unidentified human traffickers.
Based on the information provided by the Dubai Police, the police arrested Azam Khan and his four associates. Based on the information provided by them, the dancer and choreographer Evan was arrested from Niketan in the capital on the night of September 3 in 2020. Then on September 15 of the same year, Evan was remanded for seven days. Later, he got bail in the case.
In the statement of the case, it was said that the accused forced the girls to perform sexual acts in hotels and dance bars in Dubai. Their representatives used to send girls to Dubai in the name of giving works from different dance clubs or events in the country.
The three accused arrested in this case narrated the incident of human trafficking by giving a confessional statement in the court. In their confession Evan’s name came up.
It is noted that Evan Shahriar Sohag won the National Film Award for Dance Direction in the movie ‘Dhyaterika’.
He runs a dance company called ‘Dance Troupe’. His team performs in various corporate shows.
