Staff Reporter :
Heavy rain and strong winds, driven by Cyclone Remal, have been causing significant disruptions across Bangladesh, particularly in the capital city, Dhaka, since Monday morning. The inclement weather has created major challenges for commuters, especially those traveling to work.

Public transportation in Dhaka has been severely affected, with limited availability of buses and other modes of transport, leading to long waits for many residents trying to reach their destinations.

Habib Akond , an employee at a private organization, reported arriving at work an hour late due to the disruptions. “The rain and wind have caused a significant slowdown in public transportation services, and I had to pay much higher fares on ride-sharing platforms,” he said.

The situation worsened with a one-and-a-half-hour suspension of metro rail services caused by power issues, leaving many commuters stranded and exacerbating the already chaotic conditions.

The combination of heavy rain and gusty winds also made it difficult for people to use umbrellas, resulting in many arriving at their destinations soaked.

Despite the challenges, residents braved the harsh weather, attempting to navigate the flooded streets and delayed transport services. The severe weather conditions underscore the need for improved infrastructure and emergency response mechanisms in Dhaka to better handle such disruptions in the future.

Authorities are advising residents to stay updated on weather forecasts and exercise caution while commuting. The city is working on restoring full metro rail services and addressing the transport shortages caused by Cyclone Remal.

As Dhaka continues to grapple with the aftermath of the cyclone, the resilience of its residents is once again being put to the test. The city remains on high alert as weather conditions evolve, with emergency services ready to respond to any further disruptions.
