A Exchange views meeting of journalists working in the district was held with the newly loined police superintendent of Sylhet, Kazi Akhtar ul Alam. The meeting was held in the conference room of the district police superintendent on Monday afternoon.
In the meeting, Sylhet’s new police superintendent (SP), Kazi Akhtar ul Alam, said that cyber crime and juvenile gangs are big challenges for the district police. In this context, the police superintendent said that the district has two challenges, one is cyber crime or cyber fraud, many crimes and frauds are happening online now, fraud is also happening in financial transactions through bKash or Nagad, besides, online gambling has spread throughout the country. We want to stop online gambling. Another is juvenile gangs. Juvenile gangs have also spread widely across the country. I want to stop the violence of juvenile gangs in Sylhet. During this time, journalists also gave their opinions on various issues in Sylhet and asked questions to the Superintendent of Police.
Regarding the security of expatriates in Sylhet, the Superintendent of Police said, Sylhet is an area with a large number of expatriates. My first priority will be that the expatriates who come to the country at a certain time to spend time with their families, we will look into this issue with great importance so that they can stay safe during this time.
Regarding various crimes in the border area of ​​Sylhet, he said, Sylhet is a border area. There is a 180 to 190 kilometer border with India here. It would be wrong to say that there is no drug or smuggling on the border. Of course, these things happen. Effective measures must be taken in this regard. Smuggling and drugs must be suppressed.
We will have zero tolerance in this regard. He said, there is an election ahead. The Chief Advisor has said that this time in the history of Bangladesh will be a better election. We will take measures in this regard with the cooperation of everyone so that the election can be free, so that the people have confidence, and the environment for the election is good. Regarding road accidents, he said, many lives are lost prematurely in road accidents. We will run awareness programs in this regard. Driver training will be arranged. If there is awareness, road accidents will decrease.
He said, if a journalist is a victim of harassment case, his name will be dropped if the investigation does not find proof of his crime. In response to a journalist’s comment that crime increases in Sylhet during winter, Akhtar ul Alam said, crime increases during winter. Robbery increases. We are working on this matter. The number of check posts has been increased in the district. There are 30 check posts. In addition, 46 mobile teams are patrolling the link road of the highway. Journalists expressed their opinions on various issues including border killings, harassment cases against journalists, police harassment of innocent people, and allegations of increased police bribery in many cases after August 5 last year. Addressing the journalists, the Superintendent of Police said, “You give constructive criticism.”
