CUTA demands resignation of VC

The Teachers’ Association of Chattogram University (CUTA) held a sit-in programme demanding the resignation of Vice chancellor (VC) Dr Shireen Akhtar and the Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Benu Kumar.

On Monday at 12:30 noon, the leaders of the association stood in front of the administrative building of the university.

Meanwhile, the President of the Teachers’ Association, Professor Dr Mustafizur Rahman Siddiqui said, “CU Vice Chancellor has lost the moral support to remain in the post of vice-chancellor by running the illegal recruitment board in the dark of night through money transactions and tarnished this post as well as the university.”

“The main obstacles in establishing the rule of law in universities are the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and the administration.

We teachers believe that the rule of law will be established in the university with their resignation,” he added.

He also said, “Our programme will continue.”

He announced that the agitation program will continue until the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and pro- Vice-Chancellor.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Association, Professor Abdul Haque, said that there is no need for teachers in the law department.

Yet the Vice-Chancellor has illegally used his own power to organize a recruitment board for teachers in the Department of Law and Bengali.

But the member of the election board selected certain candidates and carried them in the car to an unknown place to conduct the recruitment board.

Speakers said what will happen with the appointment of teachers illegally? Professor Abdul Haque, General Secretary of Teachers Association, raised such questions against Pro- Vice Chancellor.

He said that the vice-chancellor has called the police to deal with the members of the university’s teachers’ association.

At this time, the Professor of CU Bangla department also spoke on the occasion.

Mohammad Shafiul Azam, former dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Sekander Chowdhury, Professor of Public Administration Department, Kazi SM Khasrul Alam Quddusi, Professor of Law Department ABM Abu Noman, Professor of Gene Engineering and Biotechnology Department, Layla Khaleda and Assistant Professor of Oceanography Department, Enamul Haque, Professor of Anthropology Department, Vice President of the Teachers’ Association participated in the programme.
Besides, Professor Mohammad Ali Azgar Chowdhury of Department of Communication and Journalism, Associate Professor of Anthropology Department Tanima Sultana and more than half a hundred teachers from various departments and institutes were present in it.
