To maintain uninterrupted trade and cargo operations after the massive fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s cargo village, the Dhaka Customs House will remain open 24 hours a day on Friday and Saturday.
An office order issued today instructed all officials to stay on duty as customs activities will continue nonstop to clear backlogged consignments and assist affected traders.
Earlier on Tuesday, the customs authorities introduced a 24-hour duty roster, assigning shifts among deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and revenue officers under the supervision of joint commissioners.
According to the latest directive, both the Airfreight and Express Service units will operate in three shifts throughout the weekend, with sufficient officers and staff deployed to ensure smooth operations.
The decision comes amid growing pressure from exporters and importers hit hard by Saturday’s fire, which destroyed a significant portion of the airport’s cargo complex.
