A workshop on industrial safety practices and risk management was held at Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).
Sonali Bank Limited Chairman Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury was the chief guest at the workshop organized by the Petroleum and Mine Engineering Department of CUET and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) at the university’s conference room on Thursday.
The speakers said that to keep any organization in the industrial and energy sector safe, it is important to ensure environmental and health safety by maintaining international standards.
Several recent accidents in the country’s industrial areas have shown that occupational safety and process safety are still limited to paper and pen in many organizations.
To overcome these weaknesses, it is necessary to provide hands-on training to students, researchers and industry professionals from the university level.
The workshop was attended by Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Head of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Dr. Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem spoke.
The workshop was co-sponsored by Bashundhara Chemical Limited. 57 professionals from 31 industrial organizations including Madhyapara Granite Mining Company Limited, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited, Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited, Bangladesh University Grants Commission, Eastern Refinery Limited, and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation participated in the workshop.
In addition, 84 students from government and private universities and various organizations, including 141 fresh graduates, participated.
