The new Bangladesh-Pakistan direct shipping route has significantly reduced transit times by over 50 per cent and strengthened regional connectivity by eliminating the need for transshipment.
Since its launch in October, more than 1,000 containers have been transported between Pakistan and Bangladesh, according to port operator DP World.
This initiative is part of a joint venture between Dubai-based DP World and NLC, utilising the new route as a component of a broader service connecting six countries.
The route includes stops at Port Klang (Malaysia), Jebel Ali (UAE), Karachi (Pakistan), Chittagong (Bangladesh), Belawan (Indonesia), and Mundra (India).
“This new route also connects to many of our regional and global routes,
providing businesses and traders with access to our entire global network,” said Sultan Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive of DP World.
The service, which commenced on 30 October, achieved a swift 11-day transit time between Karachi and Chittagong on its first voyage, carrying 304 containers booked directly for this route.
“By eliminating the need for transshipment, the direct route ensures faster delivery times and significantly lowers logistics costs,” a DP World statement explained.
The second service witnessed a more than twofold increase in container volume between Karachi and Chittagong, reflecting the rising demand for this efficient shipping solution.
