Chattagram Bureau :
Despite stumbling for a few months in the beginning of the fiscal year due to internet shutdown, political turmoil and dollar crisis, the revenue collection target of Chattagram Custom House has now gained momentum. Till February 2024-25, Chattagram Customs has collected 48,271 crores against the target of 55,419 crores. Which is 11 percent more than the same period of the previous fiscal year.
In February 2025, the country’s highest revenue-collecting institution collected 6,152 crores in revenue against the target of 6,440 crores. In February of the last fiscal year, 4,480 crores of revenue was collected. Chattagram Customs House Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam said that irregularities have decreased due to intelligence surveillance and strengthening of port security systems.
Activities are being carried out in accordance with appropriate customs laws. This is also increasing the amount of revenue collection. Chattagram C&F Agents Association President SM Saiful Islam said, imports were low due to various reasons including the July-August uprising, severe floods, and dollar crisis.
Now, as remittance flows have increased gradually, the dollar crisis has eased. Banks are opening import letters of credit (LC), the government is encouraging imports by giving duty exemptions on daily necessities.
At the same time, customs evasion has been stopped due to the surveillance of the Custom House, i.e. the NBR. Naturally, revenue collection is increasing at the Custom House. If there is political stability, it is only a matter of time before the target is met.
Chattagram Custom House was able to collect a revenue of Tk 68,866.54 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24. Customs collects revenue at the prescribed duty rate on imported and exported goods through the country’s main seaports. Previously, the Chattagram Custom House collected revenue of Tk 51,000 crore in the 2020-21 fiscal year, Tk 59,159 crore in the 2021-22 fiscal year, and Tk 61,633 crore in the 2022-23 fiscal year.
