Crimes in city rising with inadequate info of tenants

One after another crime incident is occurring in the capital city daily despite having strict and regular patrol of police.
Sources said that police are facing puzzling difficulties to identify culprits as they don’t have adequate and proper information about the tenants of the city.
It is learnt that some people had been staying as tenants for a month at house in Madhya Badda area of the capital.
Then they planned to commit robbery in the landlord’s house during the Eid-ul -Azha holiday. And accordingly they looted money and gold ornaments.
Even though a case has been filed in this connection, the law enforcement forces have failed to identify the culprits as there is no proper information about the tenants.
Landlords have been advised to collect the information of the new tenant and submit it to the beat officer of the concerned police station area to prevent malpractice ahead of the elections. Many times tenants refuse to provide information.
Besides, due to negligence of landlords information is not available.In order to help with information for these reasons, on behalf of the police station, yard meetings and awareness programs are ongoing with landlords and tenants in different areas.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) data says that in 2020, there were 21 cases of robbery in Dhaka Metropolitan area.
1,217 cases of theft.In 2021, there were 23 robberies and 1,343 thefts.In 2022, there were 27 robberies, 1,603 thefts.Till May of this year, there were 14 robberies and 610 thefts in the capital.
According to DMP information, 505 people have been arrested in the capital from July 1 to July 7 in connections with robbery and attempted robbery.208 cases have been registered in these incidents.
Among those arrested, 46 in Ramna Division, 73 in Lalbagh Division, 44 in Motijheel Division, 27 in Wari Division, 187 in Tejgaon Division, 66 in Mirpur Division, 11 in Gulshan Division, 51 in Uttara Division.
Among the cases filed, 23 are in Ramna Division, 35 in Lalbagh Division, 15 in Motijheel Division, 13 in Wari Division, 73 in Tejgaon Division, 32 in Mirpur Division, 7 in Gulshan Division, 10 in Uttara Division.
According to the information of the police headquarters, there were 308 robberies in 2021, which increased to 406 in 2022.In the five months of the current year 2023, 78 incidents of robbery have occurred.
An intelligence officer of the law and order force said that recently there has been a slight increase in cases of snatching, theft and robbery.
However, in the ongoing operation of the law and order forces, the arrest process is ongoing on the charges of involvement in theft, snatch and robbery.
Besides, still, criminals are active in committing theft, snatching, robbery in various places including houses and garments.Vigilance and ongoing operations have been intensified to prevent such criminal activities, he said.
In the meantime, senior officials are also monitoring these issues. The respective police stations of the law enforcement agencies are being asked to verify the information regarding the addresses of those involved in criminal activities, he added.
Talking to several landlords in the capital, it is known that after renting the house, the tenants’ information and copies of national identity cards are asked.But many people hesitate to give information.Many others also give information.Especially among bachelors, many spend time giving information.
Stating that the collection of tenants’ information is helpful in preventing any kind of criminal activities, Additional Commissioner (Administration) of DMP AKM Hafeez Akhter told the media that instructions will be given to all OCs in the upcoming ‘Crime Conference’ to speed up the collection of tenants’ information.
Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motijheel Division of DMP Monir Hossain Molla said, “The matter of collecting the information of the tenants is ongoing.Landlords are regularly informed to collect their details on arrival of new tenants and submit them to the concerned bit officers.
‘ Kazi Abul Kalam , Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara Khan Police Station of Uttara Division said, “Many tenants give information to landlords, while many do not want to give information themselves.If tenants are sincere about providing information, it will play an effective role in controlling any type of crime.
Landlords are constantly being asked by the law enforcement agencies to help by submitting the tenant’s information to the police station.
