The Communist Party of China (CPC) has formally invited Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to visit China at a mutually convenient time, marking a potential strengthening of political ties between the two parties.
The invitation was extended by Li Hongzhong, a member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, during a meeting with a high-level BNP delegation in Beijing on Monday. The delegation was led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
According to Sayrul Kabir Khan of the BNP media cell, the meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People, where senior CPC leaders formally welcomed the BNP delegation. During the talks, Li Hongzhong extended the official invitation to Tarique Rahman, expressing hope that such exchanges would usher in a new chapter in China-Bangladesh relations.
The CPC also underscored the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and deepening cooperation with the BNP. In response, Mirza Fakhrul expressed appreciation for China’s leadership in regional affairs and conveyed hopes for enhanced multilateral engagement led by Beijing.
Earlier in the day, the BNP delegation visited the headquarters of China Railway Group Limited to learn more about China’s experience in infrastructure development.
This visit is seen as a sign of growing political engagement between the BNP and the CPC, with both sides expressing optimism about future cooperation.
The BNP delegation arrived in Beijing early Sunday morning for a five-day official visit at the invitation of the CPC.
In addition to Mirza Fakhrul, the nine-member delegation includes Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and Begum Selima Rahman; Chairperson’s Advisers Zahiruddin Swapan, Ismail Zabiullah, and Professor Sukomal Barua; party media cell convener Dr Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel; and the BNP Chairperson’s Personal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.
