Pangaon Inland Container Terminal was established in 2013 in Keraniganj near Dhaka in the joint venture of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) and BIWTA with the aim of making the industry and business trade of Dhaka and interior region as time and cost efficient and to facilitate and expand import-export.
Since its establishment, under the management of Chattogram Port Authority, the import-export cargo container transport on the Chattogram-Pangaon-Chattagram sea route has been running smoothly. In order to increase the handling of Pangaon inland container terminal and speed up the operational activities in terminal. Honorable Chairman Rear Admiral SM Monriuzzaman, OSP, NDC, NCC, PSC, Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority on 01-09-2024 and on 15-09-2024 meeting with owners and importers and exporters.
In the meeting Chairman called on the stakeholders to increase the handling of Pangaon container terminal and to make the terminal business friendly. The following facilities have been added to the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal which is requested by importers-exporters, shipping agents etc, to make the Pangaon ICT business friendly.
1. An initiative has been taken to cancel the notification issued earlier by the Ministry of Shipping to reduce the existing fare of vessels on the Chattogram-Pangaon-Chattogram route.
This will make the freight rates of container transport by river competitive and significantly lower than the current rate.
2.Chattogram-Pangaon-Chattagram sea route has started regular shipping of ships.
3. Importers-exporters are taking necessary steps to open LC mentioning Pangaon terminal as destination of container in IGM and B/L.
4. With a view to reducing customs complications, the National Board of Revenue has taken initiatives to simplify customs clearance procedures at Pangaon Container Terminal.
5. Other shipping lines, including international container operator CMA-CGM, have expressed their interest in using the Pangaon inland container terminal for inland container transport.
6. Chattogarm Port Authority is allocating 01 (one) more jetty to Pangaon ICT in addition to 01 (one) jetty scheduled for Pangaon ICT. It will be possible to do double container handling compared to the previous one.
