Chattogram Bureau :
In the presence of the Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways, Mr. Fawzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Mr. Faruk-e-Azam, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, various decisions were taken at the meeting held to reduce waterlogging in Chattogram city.
In light of these decisions, activities to increase navigability and remove waste through dredging have been started in various canals adjacent to the Karnaphuli River under the jurisdiction of the Chittagong Port Authority. Chattogram Port Authority is conducting activities to maintain the water flow of the canals, especially by removing plastic/non-biodegradable waste floating in the mouths of various canals and drains connected to the Karnaphuli River from Chattogram city, including Rajakhali Canal, Chaktai Canal, with its own initiative and funding.
Chattogram Port Authority has been playing an important role in solving the waterlogging problem of Chittagong city by dredging the main channel of the Karnaphuli River with its own initiative and funding, along with removing waste from the canals under its jurisdiction. For this, a project is being implemented very successfully through the Bangladesh Navy with its own funding. 5.5 million Cubic meters of dredging work has already been completed under the project.
The project will be completed by June 2025. In such a situation, it is expected that Chattogram Port Authority will continue such activities regularly to make the lives of the city residents comfortable even after the completion of the currently ongoing project.
