The death toll from Covid-19 disease reached 5,044 in Bangladesh as of Wednesday morning, as health authorities reported 37 more fatalities in 24 hours across the country.
During the period, another 1,666 fresh cases were detected which increased the number of total cases in the country to 3,52,287 since the first detection of the infection on March 8.
According to a handout provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 14,150 new tests were carried out during the period that took the total number of sample tests to 18,62,637.
The official release said 18.91 percent of total tests turned out to be positive and the daily infection rate was recorded 11.77 percent on Wednesday.
The total number of recoveries reached 2,62,953 till Wednesday 8 am as 2,163 former patients were reported cured in 24 hours.
The recovery rate now stands 74.64 percent in Bangladesh while the mortality rate is 1.43 percent, the DGHS release added.
Currently, there are 84,290 active cases in the country. Bangladesh is seeing 2068.55 infections, 1,544 recoveries per million while 29.62 are dying against the same number.
Among the 37 new deaths, including 24 men and 13 women, 31 are aged above 50.
So far, 2,490 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,044 in Chattogram, 334 in Rajshahi, 425 in Khulna, 186 in Barishal, 223 in Sylhet, 235 in Rangpur and 107 in Mymensingh division.
Across the country, 16,181 people are now in isolation and 46,538 in quarantine.
In Bangladesh, the first three cases of coronavirus infection were detected on March 8 and it crossed 3,00,000 on August 26.
On July 2, a total of 4,019 Covid-19 patients were identified in the country which was the highest in a single day.
