A Dhaka court has directed investigators to submit a detailed forensic report by August 31 on several electronic devices and documents seized from model Meghna Alam, to determine whether they contain any content that could be deemed anti-state.

Metropolitan Magistrate M A Azharul Islam issued the order on Tuesday, asking the investigation officer to clarify why Meghna’s passport, an iPhone 16 Pro, a MacBook, an Oppo smartphone, and a laptop should not be returned to her custody.

During the hearing, Alam’s counsels, Mahima Bandhan and Mohsin Reza, appealed for the immediate return of her passport, arguing that she frequently travels abroad for work as a leadership trainer and her professional commitments are being severely disrupted.
The items were confiscated in connection with a case filed at Dhanmondi Police Station on charges of fraud and extortion.

According to the complaint, Meghna Alam, along with Dewan Samir and several unnamed accomplices, allegedly operated a racket that targeted foreign diplomats and affluent businessmen by using attractive women to lure them into relationships and then extorting them with threats of defamation.

Dewan Samir, reportedly the CEO of Kawai Group and owner of the manpower company Sanjana International, is accused of hiring women as brand ambassadors to approach influential individuals under the pretext of corporate representation.

Meghna Alam was initially detained under the Special Powers Act on April 10, but the detention order was later overturned. She was then shown arrested in the Dhanmondi fraud case on April 17, granted bail on April 28, and released from jail the next day.

The court is expected to take further action once the forensic report is submitted and the status of the seized items is reviewed.
