A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a 1,570 square-foot flat and three plots, totaling 18 kathas of land, in Uttara under the name of Jahangir Hossain, a close associate of former Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.

The order was issued on Thursday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Jakir Hossain Galib following a petition filed by Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Mohammad Zainal Abedin.

According to the petition, a probe is currently underway into allegations that Harun-or-Rashid amassed hundreds of crores of taka in undisclosed assets both in Bangladesh and abroad through abuse of power and corruption. The ACC mentioned in the petition that there is credible information indicating attempts to transfer or sell these properties, thereby potentially obstructing the investigation.

To ensure an effective and uninterrupted investigation, the ACC sought the court’s directive to seize the properties.

Earlier, on February 19, the same court ordered the seizure of 100 bighas of land, five buildings, and two flats in Harun’s name. It also froze a total of Tk1.26 crore across 10 of his bank accounts.
Additionally, the court ordered the seizure of 30 bighas of land and the freezing of 11 bank accounts and shares in three companies owned by Harun’s brother, ABM Shahriar.

The case highlights growing concerns over high-profile corruption within the police force and the importance of judicial intervention in ongoing investigations.
