Court orders gazette notification for Hasina’s appearance

A Dhaka court has directed authorities to publish a gazette notification summoning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others to appear in court in connection with six corruption cases related to illegal plot allocations in Purbachal.

The order was issued on Tuesday by Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib.
According to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, the court has instructed that the gazette notification be issued by the BG Press and submitted by July 1. Once published, the court can proceed with the trial in Hasina’s absence, and the cases will be ready for transfer to the trial stage.

The day was set for hearing reports on the seizure of roperties belonging to the accused. However, police failed to submit the seizure reports in five of the six cases. As a result, the court fixed a new date to receive the reports.

The accused in the cases include: former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed, former Senior Assistant Secretary of the Housing and Public Works Ministry Purabi Goldar, former RAJUK Chairman Anichur Rahman Miah ,former RAJUK Member Shafiul Haque ,Mohammad Khurshid Alam

Mohammad Nasir Uddin ,Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury ,Nayeb Ali Sharif ,Saiful Islam Sarkar ,Kazi Wasi Uddin ,Shahid Ullah Khondaker.

Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government was ousted from power during the mass uprising on August 5, 2024.

On that day, she reportedly fled to India, stepping down from her post as prime minister. Other members of her family have also remained abroad since then.
