A Chattogram court has ordered that Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote, be shown as arrested in the murder case of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
The order was issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin on Monday following a hearing in which Chinmoy appeared virtually.
According to Chattogram Metropolitan Court Assistant Public Prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, the court granted the prosecution’s request to show Chinmoy as arrested in the case.
On Sunday, police submitted a petition seeking to show Chinmoy arrested in four separate cases—one involving Alif’s murder, another for obstructing police duties, and two others related to attacks on lawyers and petitioners.
The court addressed the murder case on Monday, while hearings for the remaining three cases are scheduled for Tuesday, added Assistant PP Raihanul.
