A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant through Interpol for Saima Wazed Putul, the daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with a corruption case involving plot allocations.
The order was issued by Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain at Dhaka Metropolitan Court on Sunday, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to sources from the ACC and the court, the petition sought an arrest warrant against Wazed, and the court granted the request after a hearing.
This latest order follows an earlier decision by a Dhaka court on April 10, which had issued arrest warrants for both Sheikh Hasina and her daughter in the same corruption case.
On April 13, additional arrest warrants were issued for several family members of Sheikh Hasina, including her sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter Tulip Siddiq, and other individuals associated with the plot allocation allegations.
The investigation, launched by the ACC in December 2024, focuses on irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
Six cases were filed by the ACC based on these allegations, naming Sheikh Hasina, her family members, and other officials in connection with the suspected corruption.
