Court freezes 81 bank accounts of Maya

A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 81 bank accounts belonging to Awami League Presidium Member and former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, his wife Parvin Chowdhury, and their son Rashedul Islam, in connection with a corruption investigation.
The order was issued on Thursday (6 November) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge MdSabbirFaiz, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). According to court d ocuments, of the frozen accounts, 16 are held by Maya, 36 by Parvin, and 29 by Rashedul.
In its petition, the ACC alleged that the accused had amassed movable assets in their names through illicit means.
It also warned that the individuals might attempt to transfer or conceal these funds and leave the country to evade prosecution.
“The freezing of these bank accounts is necessary to ensure that the allegedly misappropriated funds are not transferred, hidden, or embezzled during the course of the investigation,” the ACC’s plea stated.
