Court attaches Tarique’s 17 acres land

A Dhaka court has ordered the attachment of 17 acres of land owned by Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former defence adviser to ousted prim minister Sheikh Hasina, and his brothers Shahin Siddique and Rafik Ahmed Siddique.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Wednesday (23 July) after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC’s petition, the commission is investigating allegations that the three amassed wealth beyond known sources of income.
During the probe, it was discovered that they were attempting to transfer the land, which the ACC argued could hinder the investigation.
“For the sake of a fair investigation, the properties should be attached immediately,” the ACC said in its plea to the court.
The court granted the petition, directing the authorities concerned to ensure that the 17 acres of land remain under attachment until further notice.
