Country will observe National Legal Aid Day for the seventh consecutive time on April 28. “We are going to observe National Legal Aid Day on April 28. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the day’s programme like previous years,” National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) Assistant Director (admin) Qazi Yasin Habib told BSS. Habib, also a senior assistant judge, said they are trying to select the slogan of the day and it will be done by next week. “We are collecting slogans with significance through our legal aid offices across the country. We will observe the day in befitting manner this year,” he added.
To make people aware of the legal aid services, the government from a cabinet meeting on January 29, 2013, declared April 28 as National Legal Aid Day.
“We have successfully implemented first strategic action plan of NLASO’s 2012-17 tenure to establish a firm legal assistance management in the country. Now work is going on to formulate strategic action plan for 2018-2022 fiscal,” Habib further said.
The NLASO office sources said the office is emphasizing on publicity and awareness campaigns in different areas, specially the Chittagong hill tracts, of the country to reach the legal aid services to grassroots. “We have also launched an app to provide legal aid and any persons can also get legal services by calling or making sms on call center number 16430,” the NLASO assistant director said.
