The country received $256.78 million in remittance during the first six days of the current month of February.
Bangladesh Bank statistics show the four state-owned commercial banks-Agrani, Janata, Rupali and Sonali-received $92.65 million from the expatriate Bangladeshis while four state-owned specialized banks received $4.32 million.
The maximum remittance came through the private commercial banks who received $164.69 million while the 9 foreign banks received only $4.33 million.
Among the private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) got the highest remittance of $49.66 million, followed by National Bank Limited (NBL) with $14.69 million.
Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $34.61 million, Sonali Bank $30.70 million, Janata Bank $24.06 million and Rupali Bank 3.28 million.
Among other private banks who are in the leading positions in earning remittance include Uttara Bank ($10.80 million), Pubali Bank ($10.31 million), Dutch-Bangla Bank ($10.02 million), Prime Bank ($7.26 million), Bank Asia ($7.22 million), AB Bank ($6.24 million) and BRAC Bank ($5,34 million).
During the six days of February, no remittance was received by the three NRB banks which were set up by non-resident Bangladeshis with the main aim of remitting their earnings.
