Country belongs to all, says Army Chief

Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman has said there will be no discrimination between religion, caste and tribe in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is a country of harmony. For hundreds of years, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Paharis, Bengalis, and tribal communities have lived together peacefully, he said.
The army chief made the remarks while inaugurating the Janmashtami procession at the Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital on Saturday. Speaking at the event, Waker-uz-Zaman said: “”We will always stand by your side. Armed forces are deployed across the country, and we are committed to working alongside you.
You will live in peace and celebrate your religious festivals with joy and dignity. We will share in your happiness, and if needed, provide all possible support.”
He added: “Today, we renew our pledge – to uphold an atmosphere of harmony, mutual respect, and goodwill. This country belongs to everyone. We will live together in peace and unity.”
Marking the occasion of Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, General Waker-uz-Zaman expressed hope that the divine ideals of truth, justice, and compassion embodied by Lord Krishna would spread throughout the nation.
“We will move forward together, guided by these timeless values,” he said.
Reflecting on his personal connection to the area, the Army Chief said: “I grew up in the Azimpur-Plassey neighbourhood. This place holds many cherished memories from my childhood.”
The vibrant Janmashtami procession began at the Plassey intersection and concluded at Bahadur Shah Park in the capital, drawing large crowds in celebration.
