The National Values Protection Council (Jatiyo Mulyabodh Sangrakshan Parishad) has expressed gratitude to the government for cancelling its earlier decision to appoint music teachers in government primary schools, calling the move a reflection of the sentiments and expectations of the general public.

In a joint statement issued on Monday (3 November), the council thanked the authorities for reconsidering what it described as a “hasty and unjustified” decision.

The statement was confirmed by Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, Ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, who published it on his verified Facebook page.

“We express our heartfelt thanks to the government for cancelling the decision to recruit music teachers in primary schools. This decision reflects the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh,” the statement read.

The signatories also extended appreciation to religious scholars, teachers, researchers, students, journalists, political and social organisations, social media activists, and conscious citizens and guardians who protested the recruitment decision and contributed to its withdrawal “from their respective positions.”

The statement further said, “Primary education is the foundation for building moral character, identity, and a sense of responsibility.

Any decision that goes against religious and ethical values at this stage of education is unacceptable. Many vital subjects in primary education still lack sufficient teachers, and the existing ones are not properly valued. Therefore, instead of addressing these pressing issues, the decision to appoint music teachers was entirely unreasonable.”

The council added that by reassessing the decision in light of public sentiment, expert opinion, and social reality, the government has reinforced people’s confidence in its leadership.
It also urged the authorities to create and fill posts for religious education teachers in primary schools, given that religious textbooks and exams are already part of the curriculum.

Additionally, the council called for “strong policy and administrative measures to prevent the spread of ideologies contrary to religious and moral values, including transgender-related teachings.

The statement was signed by the following leaders:

Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ,Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim (Pir Saheb ,Charmonai), Ameer, Islami Andolon Bangladesh ,Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, Ameer, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish ,Maulana Sajidur Rahman, Secretary General, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh
