CoU Correspondent :
Comilla University (CoU) has provided financial aid of Tk 10,000 each to 30 students injured during the July Revolution. The program was held on Sunday (January 19) in the university’s virtual classroom, presided over by Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim.
At the event, injured students highlighted the administration’s limitations and emphasized the need for improving the campus environment. Farhad Mia Kawsar, a student from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, stated, ‘The administration has yet to take effective action against the perpetrators. The attackers and their allies still roam freely, while the revolutionaries live in fear.’
Mujammal Hossain Abir from the English Department stated, “The campus we envisioned post-revolution is yet to materialize. Despite promises, political activities and drug control measures remain inadequate. If the administration takes bold and correct decisions, we assure you that ordinary students will stand by your side.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haider Ali acknowledged the legitimacy of the students’ demands. He remarked, “I feel proud to stand before the brave students of Comilla University. However, power shifts have led to the formation of multiple coordinating groups, making progress challenging. We must consider our limitations and work collectively through discussions.”
Proctor Dr. Abdul Hakim praised the students’ struggle, stating, “Unprecedented and remarkable fascism has been overthrown by this generation. They have shown that freedom lies in the path of struggle. You are the true heroes of the nation.”
