Cooperation of other service organizations including the City Corporation is needed to resolve waterlogging in Chittagong, said Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
He made this comment in response to a question from journalists after inaugurating the Mahesh Canal excavation program in the South Agrabad area of Chittagong on Saturday (March 8) afternoon. He said that despite spending thousands of crores of taka, the desired results have not been obtained.
Therefore, visible improvements must be ensured first. Stating that even if the waterlogging project is not completely completed by next May, there will be significant improvement, he said that work will be done to solve this problem in coordination with the Water Development Board, WASA, City Corporation and all related organizations. Public involvement must be increased so that the canal water is not polluted. He also said that the Anti-Corruption Commission will look into the allegations of corruption in the project. The energy advisor advised to be more aware of electricity usage during this time.
He said that the load shedding situation will be determined depending on the level of heat and the power generation system. The government is working to increase LNG imports, repair transformers and improve power supply. A balance will be maintained between cities and villages in terms of power distribution. Misuse of electricity must be prevented. Illegal connections must be stopped.
At this time, Chattagram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, CDA Chairman Engineer Md. Nurul Karim, CHC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, CHC Chief Cleaning Officer Commander Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, CDA Canal Excavation Project Director Lieutenant Colonel Ferdous Ahmed were present.
Earlier in the morning, Dr. Muhammad FauzulKabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Road Transport and Railways, visited GuptacharaGhat in Sandwip via BanshbariaGhat and inspected the progress of the ferry infrastructure work. He said that the initial decision to start the ferry on March 24 was made during this time.
