BSS, Dhaka :The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 yesterday adjourned the hearing of the contempt proceedings drawn against journalist and blogger David Bergman till August 25.The second tribunal yesterday heard the matter and Mizan Sayeed, counsel for the petitioner, pleaded for punitive action against Bergman, saying he has committed contempt of court by his criticizing a sub-judice matter on his own blog. On the other hand, Bergman’s counsel Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan asked the petitioner to show in which point his client committed the contempt of court.”It will be easy for us to reply if they pin point us the section, where they are saying my client has committed contempt of court,” said Barrister Khan. After hearing both the sides, the tribunal adjourned the hearing till August 25.Earlier on February 20, the second tribunal in its order asked Bergman to explain his ‘criticism’ of the trial process by appearing before it or through his counsel. The ICT-2 issued the order after hearing a petition of High Court lawyer Abul Kalam Azad.Azad filed the petition on February 18, seeking the tribunal’s rule upon David as to why contempt proceeding would not be initiated against him for his comments related to war crimes trials and judgments on his blog.
