The country’s import-export trade has started to turn around. Container handling and other activities are increasing in Chittagong Port the main seaport of the country, although not at the expected pace. Global trade almost came to a standstill due to the Ukraine-Russia war, the dollar crisis and the LC crisis. Out of that situation, the business is gradually increasing.
Import-export is increasing. If the current trend continues, the concerned people expressed hope that the economy will gradually accelerate. After the shock of the Corona period, the dollar crisis along with the Ukraine-Russia war put the country’s import-export sector in a dire situation. LC opening closes a lot. No LC was being opened for essential goods and above specified amount. The import of luxury goods was completely stopped. On the other hand, the export market also collapsed.
Due to the global crisis, the purchasing power of the people of the developed world including Europe and America decreased, the export of the country’s manufactured clothes and other products began to decrease rapidly. This affects the overall operation of Chittagong Port. Chittagong port handled about 31 lakh TEUS of containers last year. In the previous year, container handling volume was 32 lakh 14 thousand TEUS. Container handling fell by over 1 lakh in a year due to the global crisis.
