Students involved in the anti-discrimination movement are monitoring the market in Sylhet city. The price of the product has started to decrease. Common people are happy with such initiative. They monitored various markets including Madina Market, Subidbazar, Rikabibazar and Ambarkhana in the metropolitan on Friday.
It is known that Sheikh Hasina fell on August 5 in the movement of anti-discrimination students. Since then, the students are doing their own initiative to clean up the city, planting trees, decongesting the traffic due to lack of traffic. This time they started working on market monitoring.
On the surface inspection, it can be seen that Sylhet district rover scout and ordinary students are monitoring the market in Kalighat area of Sylhet city on Saturday afternoon. During this time, they instructed to keep the price list in front of the shops and called upon the people to stand against the market syndicate.
Students in charge of market monitoring said that at least 50 students came to the market on Friday. They are requesting the shopkeepeTk to keep the prices of daily commodities affordable. Because currently people are suffering due to the increase in the price of daily products. On this day, the students talked to the tradeTk in all the shops selling daily commodities including vegetables in Sobhanighat raw market, the biggest wholesale market of the city. In each shop, he heard the prices of various daily products from the shopkeepeTk and wrote them down in his book. At this time, they requested shop owneTk and businessmen not to pay subscription to anyone.
Students in charge of market monitoring said that 20 to 25 students came to the market on Friday. People are suffering due to increase in the price of daily commodities. We have started working on how to reduce it. We know that rice is a major factor in increasing commodity prices. We want to stop that. Meanwhile, as a result of the students’ monitoring, the prices of vegetables in Sylhet city have started to decrease. The prices of all kinds of vegetables have decreased by 5 to 7 taka in a span of one day in different areas including Ambarkhana, Madina Market.
Meanwhile, common people are happy with the market monitoring of students. They say, if all extortion and syndicates are stopped, we will be able to buy and sell at a fair price. Stability will return to the market. People can trade in peace.
The tradeTk of Rikbay Bazaar in Sylhet said that the prices of all vegetables, including green chillies, have started to decrease. 200 taka raw chili is now selling at 180 to 190 taka. The price of potato has also come down by Tk 3 to 5 per kg. Besides, the price of other vegetables has decreased by 5 to 7 taka per kg.
Musa Ali Tipu, who came to buy vegetables at the city’s port market, said that the price of the product was one of the problems in the past. Due to extortion and syndicates, the prices of products have increased by leaps and bounds day by day. Our students have remembered that and started working to normalize the market situation. This is definitely a good thing. Our request to the new government is to take permanent steps to normalize the market situation.
Students released the new market price list to the public on Friday. In the new market price list for students, potato is Tk 40, onion Tk 70, salt packet (thick) Tk 30, soybean oil Tk 140, petrol Tk 125, beef Tk 650, beef Tk 800, broiler chicken Tk 140, country chicken Tk 400, fixed milk as 60 taka in cities and 50 taka in villages.
Rover Scout Jubair Ahmad, who is in the market monitoring, said that in the current context of Bangladesh, there will be public suffering; students are trying to keep the product prices stable through market monitoring. Urge the public to contact the army or students if any seller wants more than the new market price.
